Traditionally, flowers have been associated with femininity as something soft and fragile. A divine gift made for adorning women. In fact, many women in the early 19th century were allowed to be botanists because it was a socially accepted field for “them.”

However, a flower can be delicate and brutal at the same time, both sensitive and strong. For the 2019 art direction, we proposed to Eloise the concept Wild Flower, because of its double meaning (Savage / Free). It allowed us to talk about the two faces of femininity, rethinking flowers as an element that evokes the subtlety of nature, while at the same time speaks to freedom and rebellion. As the activist Emma Goldman once said, “I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.”.

Wild Flower

You used to tell me that flowers
had nothing to do with you.
That you were not that kind of woman.
But I always saw you
like wild flowers.
The ones that grow free
between the cracks,
with the Mediterranean sun.
So fragile and powerful at the same time,
so delicate and so brutal.
You hated the bouquets
you played to many times “loves me, loves me not”.
But that day
with that flower in your hands,
you discovered with surprise,
that each flower that opens
reminds us that the world
hasn’t gotten tired of the color yet.

At the level of visual identity, we opted for the power of cadmium yellow, giving a cinematic touch to both the headline and the subtitles in the catalog, a nod to the previous year’s Nouvelle Vague campaign. Finally, the drawing of flowers was introduced to give the piece a certain complexity and maturity.
